Antonio Nieto Navarro Jr., affectionately known as Jr., was born on February 1, 1950, and called home by our Lord on October 6, 2024, at the age of 74 in Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Juanita Navarro, sisters, Minerva Navarro, Dolores Torres, Josephine Perez, nephews, James Villarreal, and Jim-Joseph Perez. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Josette Navarro, and Anthony Navarro and wife Christine Bailey-Navarro, and grandchildren, Hailey Zamudio and James Navarro. He is also survived by his sisters, Alice Villarreal and husband Leovardo, Emily Santos and husband Arturo, Yolanda Navarro-Flores and husband Hilario Flores, brother, Joe Navarro and wife Janet, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Jr. was an avid saltwater angler in his early years and loved to bring home fresh fish for the family to enjoy. He also enjoyed coaching his children’s youth baseball and softball teams, attending Astros games, and barbecuing. He loved outdoor parties where you would find him listening to good music, enjoying his favorite beverage while resting in the shade of an old oak tree. Paw Paw, as his granddaughter affectionately called him, loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play sports. He would tell his grandson how he and his friends would play great baseball back in 1957 at Hennessey Park, the same stories he told his children when they were kids. This became a bit of a running joke, where everyone would poke fun of the “kids from 1957.”
Antonio’s final wishes were to be surrounded by his loving family when he entered hospice care, to have his funeral Mass celebrated at his childhood parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and final burial at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery where his parents and many other family members are also laid to rest.
