Larry Dean Hooper

February 1, 1947 — November 5, 2024

Conroe, Texas

Larry Dean Hooper, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed at the age of 77 in his home on November 5, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones.

Larry was born to Luther and Edith Hooper in Torrance, CA, on February 1, 1947. He was the youngest of two children. Larry graduated from Redondo Beach High School in 1964, where he played baseball and football.

After graduating, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served proudly as a firefighter during the Vietnam era, spending much of his time stationed in Europe. Upon discharge, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California State Long Beach. Larry met Sandy, whom he married in 1973, and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage together. They were blessed with two daughters, Jennifer and Trisha.

Larry embraced an active life from his youth, exploring sports, karate, and outdoor adventures. As an adult, he took great joy in playing tennis and golf, staying fit, and savoring life’s simple pleasures in his signature Hawaiian shirts, flip-flops, espresso, and cigars. Above all, he treasured time spent with family, especially when it meant playing games, goofing around, and making memories together. Larry was a fun-loving and kind man, who loved reading and studying his Bible daily, along with learning Italian and Spanish. He never ran out of love and generosity. Even in his last days, he smiled and showed grace.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy; their children, Jennifer Rees and Trisha (David) Arias; his cherished grandchildren, Drake and Gabie Pierson, Grace and Holden Rees, and soon-to-arrive baby Arias; and his brother, Paul.
